A TRIP TO THE SEASIDE
1898 video newsreel film
Full title reads: "Let us now take a trip to the Seaside ..."
VS Paddle steamer 'Victoria' at jetty and passengers disembarking from ship. They walk down a long gangplank to the beach. [LULWORTH COVE CLIP]
Intertitle reads: "... where the fashionable world is gathered".
VS Beach with rowing boats, bathing machines and crowds of bathers.
MS girls getting out of bathing machines wearing swimming costumes.
Intertitle reads: "These Daly's Show Girls form a pretty picture of gold diggers of the Middle Ages".
VS Daly's showgirls run from bathing machine across the beach and into the sea. A few other people are paddling in the waves. After bathing they sit in line along edge of rowing boat.
Intertitle reads: "It is rumoured that the Brighton Council is taking steps to put an end to this wanton display of bar flesh!!!"
