MAPLETON

COUNTRY WOMEN'S ASSN.

The monthly meeting of Mapleton Branch was held on Tuesday, (5th April). The president (Mrs. W. Shepherd) presided, and other members present were Misses Dayies, Morrison, Venz, Hingston, Utting, Farrington, English, Smith, McGinn, Rockett, Golden, Appleby, Ensbey, Jones and Herrington. The president welcomed back to the Branch an early member, Mrs. Robt. Simpson. The treasurer's financial statement showed a credit balance of £33/7/5. It was decided to send two food parcels to Britain, one to an elderly woman at Yelverton, Sth. Devon, and the other to the West Lulworth Women's Institute, West Lulworth, Dorset. The bring and buy stall netted the sum of 3/6, and it was decided to hold a similar stall at every meeting. The conveners are Mrs. Hingston and Mrs. Appleby. As the Branch's 21st birthday falls on the 28th June it was decided to hold a birthday party on the Thursday nearest that date, viz., the 30th June. Several of the resolutions for the forthcoming conference in May were discussed and approved, especially the resolution 'That Q.C.W.A. press for the establishment of an agreed common language, through the United Nations Organisation, in order to foster the growth of peace among the nations of the world. Surely, such a resolution would meet with the whole-hearted approval of every woman, not only of Australia, but of the whole world!
