The society was formed in January 1984 as a forum for people living in the district
with a shared interest in gardening. Meetings are held at Lulworth Village Hall on
the second Wednesday of each month, in the evening.
The meeting comprises a brief discussion of society business and future plans, followed
by a talk given by a professional speaker, usually illustrated. The topics are mostly
garden related and range from instruction on specific techniques, the planning and
construction of show gardens and photographic tours of gardens of specific interest.
The society holds an annual flower and vegetable show in August, which is open to
Society members and entries from non members are also welcomed. Cash prizes and trophies
are awarded in a wide category of classes. A flower of the month competition is held
at each monthly meeting, with the member accruing the most points overall awarded
an annual trophy.
Special events are held during the year, such as an evening outing to a local garden
of particular interest, possibly a day-trip summer outing, whilst the December meeting
takes the form of a Christmas party.
Potential new members or visitors to our meetings are always welcome.
The annual subscription fee is a very modest £6.
